The Serbest Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c) organization, is committed to promoting diversity and creating awareness through various avenues, including science, art, education, business & economics, the rule of law, and athletics. We firmly believe that cultural exchange and the celebration of diverse artistic expressions play a vital role in achieving our mission. Our Foundation is an organization focused on preserving, promoting and developing the unique cultural heritage, language, art, music and traditions of the Kurds. It aims to pass on to future generations creative disciplines such as art, music, dance and literature that transcend our daily problems and constantly remind us that we are all part of a single global community, to encourage diversity and solidarity by bringing together creative individuals living in different economic, social and cultural structures and producing in different disciplines, to raise awareness in the fields of culture, art and science with the motto “The other perspective”, and to carry this awareness to other segments of society.

The Serbest Foundation has a strong track record of promoting cultural exchange and academic pursuits. We have sponsored conferences in collaboration with esteemed institutions such as the Buffet Institute and Northwestern University, focusing on the experiences and democratic struggles of the Kurdish people within the Middle East, as well as the historical and comparative study of Kurdish politics, society, and culture. Additionally, we are currently supporting he conference “The Long Twentieth Century of Kurds and Kurdistan” to be held at Yale University in March 2024.
